The post-war local bank was established in October 1950 by people associated with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Iwate Prefecture and local volunteers.
In addition to Iwate Prefecture, the bank also has five branches in Miyagi Prefecture, two branches in Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture, and branches in Antler City, Akita Prefecture, and Tokyo.
In recent years, the bank has focused on supporting the sixth industrialization of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, as well as the development of agricultural enterprises.
