Hana Bank (Korean:) Is A Wholly-owned Subsidiary Of Hana Financial Group. It Was Established In July 1991 And Is The Third Largest Commercial Bank In South Korea, Headquartered In Seoul. Its Predecessor Was Korea Investment & Finance Corporation, Which Was Established In 1971. Hana Bank Has 664 Branches In South Korea And Overseas Business Outlets In New York, Japan, Tokyo, Singapore, Hong Kong And Other Places. Since Establishing A Representative Office In Shanghai In 1996, Hana Bank Has Established Several Branches In China.

Former Korea Exchange Bank
Korea Exchange Bank (Korean :한국외환은행) Was Established In 1967 And Is The Only Foreign Currency Exchange Bank In South Korea, Headquartered In Seoul. Korea Exchange Bank Was Originally Established As A Government Bank Of Korea. It Was Privatized In 1989 And Listed On The Korea Exchange. Currently Hana Financial Group Is The Largest Shareholder Of The Bank. Korea Exchange Bank Has Many Overseas Branches And Cooperative Banks. The Branch In China Was Merged Into Hana Bank China In 2014.
Korea Exchange Bank Was Established In 1967 As One Of The Government Enterprises, Mainly Supporting The Import And Export Trade Of Korea. At That Time, It Was The Only Foreign Currency Bank In South Korea. In 1989, Korea Exchange Bank Was Privatized And Listed On The Korea Exchange. It Was One Of The First Commercial Banks In South Korea.
Due To The Impact Of The Asian Financial Crisis, Lone Star Funds, A Leveraged Buyout Group, Acquired The Bank In 1997. In May 2006, Lone Star Agreed To Sell The 65% Stake To Kookmin Bank For More Than US $6 Billion, But The Transaction Was Ultimately Fruitless.
In 2007, HSBC, Through An Indirect Wholly-owned Subsidiary HSBC Asia, Acquired A 51% Stake On September 13, 2007 For US $6.317 Billion (approximately HK $49.30 Billion). However, Due To The Unresolved Litigation Involving The Bank's Major Shareholders, The Transaction Has Not Been Approved, And HSBC Announced The Cancellation Of The Transaction On September 19, 2008. In January 2012, South Korean Regulators Approved Hana Financial Group's Acquisition Of A 51.02% Stake In Korea Exchange Bank.
