History
The origins of ZBBL date back to 1951. Ten years later, the financial services organisation from which the bank originated has grown to have nine branches across the country. The organisation was sold to Dutch Rhodesian Bank in 1961. In 1972, the company was renamed Rhodesian Banking Corporation and then Rhobank in 1979. Following the government's acquisition of a majority stake, the company was renamed Zimbabwe Banking Corporation in 1981.
In 1989, the company was restructured into a holding company, namely Zimbabwe Financial Holdings Limited. This enabled the bank to operate as an independent subsidiary of a large financial conglomerate, which also owned other non-bank financial services subsidiaries. Over the years, through the acquisition of other subsidiaries, the group was able to provide a wide range of services, including commercial and commercial banking, installment payments and leasing, as well as trust and executor services
On 30 October 2006, the group adopted a new brand and officially changed its name to ZB Financial Holdings Limited. This change coincided with the merger with the former Intermarket Holdings. These new subsidiaries include a bank, two insurance companies and a building society. All subsidiaries carry the ZB brand.
In June 2014, the financial group merged ZB Bank Limited with ZB Building Society to meet the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe's new capital requirements
