ASN Bank is a former Dutch bank that is now the brand name for some of de Volksbank's consumer banking operations. ASN focuses on socially responsible and sustainable investments.
ASN Bank was founded on May 1, 1960 by the unions of the Dutch Federal Trade Union (FNV) and the insurance company de Centrale (now Reaal insurances). Until the 1990s, it was possible to open an ASN savings account through Postal Bank, which was known as a "vakbondsspaarrekeningen" (union savings account).
ASN Bank is currently the second largest sustainability-driven bank in the Netherlands and has been selected as the second most climate-friendly bank in the Netherlands (both behind Triodos Bank).
ASN Bank has experienced rapid growth in recent years in terms of the number of customers, assets entrusted to the bank, etc. Since 2009, net profit has risen sharply, mainly due to higher interest spreads, differences in borrowing interest. Between 2009 and 2013, ASN Bank's contribution to the Social Partners and ASN Foundation increased from 600,000 euros to 2.60 million euros.
